Vigo di Fassa (from the Latin "vicus" village) is situated on a sunny terrace from which it dominates the entire valley. From the village you can reach the ski area with the cableway "Catinaccio", or from Pera di Fassa, (hamlet of Pozza, Pozza di Fassa lies between these two villages), with the chairlifts "Vajolet 1", "Vajolet 2" and "Pian Pecei". Ciampedie, Campo di Dio in Ladin, is the reference point of the Catinaccio ski area. It is a plateau at an altitude of 2,000 meters from which you can admire a 360° panorama of the Dolomites of the Val di Fassa: the Catinaccio or Rosengarten (rose garden in German) - UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, the Vajolet Towers, Sassolungo, Sella, Sass Pordoi, Marmolada, the Creste di Costabella, Buffaure and the Catena dei Monzoni.
The Catinaccio ski area has 16 km of alpine ski runs, some of which are easier and suitable for those who are just starting out on the snow, while others are more challenging, such as the panoramic "Thöni", dedicated to the South Tyrolean ski champion, which runs from Ciampedie down to the village. The black "Tomba", almost 2 km long, is a track reserved for real professionals; it is in honor of the champion Alberto Tomba, who used to train here (from 1986 to 1998 he obtained 50 victories, 35 in special slalom, 15 in giant slalom, in the World Cup, 4 Olympic gold and 2 Olympic silver medals, and finally 2 gold and 2 bronze medals at the World Championships).
Ciampedie is a ski resort particularly suitable for families and children, who from the age of 3 can have fun in the "Kinderpark Ciampedìe" run by the school. Instructors also organize snowshoeing tours in the Catinaccio Group and ski touring tours. Cross-country skiers will find trails at the Costalunga Pass, just a few km from Vigo.
