Forni di Sopra

Forni di Sopra is a quiet ski resort in Friuli with two separate ski areas. The first is Davost with easy, low-altitude downhill pistes between 800 and 1100 metres; children are catered for with a snow playground, the Fantasy Park, and a large school field. The second is Varmost with longer runs for more experienced skiers; the 5.8 km of runs are served by 3 chairlifts between 900 and 2065 metres at the summit of Mt Crusicalas. A total of 8 lifts serve 13 km of slopes equipped with snowmaking. Ample space is also dedicated to other skiing specialities. There are dozens of itineraries for ski mountaineering: the slopes of the Tartoi and Tragonia mountain pastures (north of the village) offer the easiest excursions, some of which take place on forest tracks and high-altitude clearings. These areas are also suitable for snowshoe hikers. From the alpine huts, it is possible to continue with more demanding ski-mountaineering excursions, including the tour of the Crodon di Tiarfin via the Forca Rossa pass, or the ascent to the Clap Savon - Bivera massif. On the other hand, the Dolomite side of the valley (west of the village) presents more technical climbs such as Scodavacca, Pecoli, Urtisiel, Lavinal, Passo Suola and others. Cross-country skiing can count on various rings at the bottom of the valley for a total of 13 km that wind along the Tagliamento River, 2 km of which are illuminated for night skiing. Forni di Sopra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. It is the gateway on the Upper Tagliamento Valley side to the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park, between Carnia and Cadore.
