San Domenico rises in the extreme north of Piedmont, in a valley of the Lepontine Alps that wedges with a suggestive succession of ridges, woods and small lakes in the south of Switzerland. An alpine hamlet of the municipality of Varzo, San Domenico is located at an altitude of 1,420 m on a plateau nestled between the mountain slopes that delimit Val Cairasca, a side valley of Val Divedro in turn part of Val d'Ossola.
